the full texts of the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code have been added to the
collection of Criminal Law Statutes. A translation of the Stasi Files Act has been added to the
section on Media, Information and Data Statutes; and a translation of
the Federal Soil Protection Act may now be found in the
collection of Environmental Law Stautes.

of the launching of a new comparative law website at iuscomp, we have

Archive is currently undergoing a major face-lift. The house-style has
been
streamlined and will be implemented in early June 2000. Please contact
the Assistant Editor if you find any broken
links or parts of the site that do not work satisfactorily.

Act Against Restraints on Competition added
The Act Against Restraints on
Competition
(Gesetz gegen Wettbewerbsbeschränkungen, GWB) has
been added
to our on-line collection of statutes.
March 2000:
New category added to collection of statutes
Two new
statutes, the Federal Building Code and the Federal Regional Planning Act, have been added to the
collection of statutes. They are to be found under a new category
heading,
entitled Planning and Construction Law Statutes. They are
published here
with the generous permission of the Federal Ministry for Building,
Transport
and Housing.

2000: German Law Archive receives Britannica Award
The Britannica
Internet Guide Award has selected our website "as one of the best on
the
Internet when reviewed for quality, accuracy of content, presentation
and
usability", as they write, and have also offered the German Law Archive
to
provide our users with a search box which gives direct access to
britannica.com
- including the Encyclopaedia Britannica. You can find this search box
on our links page.
January
2000: Political Parties Act added
The Political Parties Act (Parteiengesetz) is at
the centre of a major political and constitutional scandal in Germany,
after
former Chancellor Helmut Kohl has admitted to have accepted DM 2
Million in
cash donations for his Christian Democratic Union from unnamed donors,
conduct
which is in violation of §25 ParteienG. We have also added a
number of statutes concerning media and the protection of young
persons.
November
1999: German Constitution and Copyright Act added
We have added
English translations of the German constitution (Basic Law,
Grundgesetz) and of the Copyright Act to our collection of
on-line statutes.

1999: Judgment of English High Court Becomes First Authority on German
Civil
Code Provision
A recent
judgment of the High Court in City of Gotha and Federal Republic
of Germany v. Sotheby's and Cobert Finance S.A. has become the first
reported decision on § 221 BGB (German Civil Code). You will find a
full
transcript of the judgment together with some notes if you follow the
above
link. Reading highly recommended to anybody interested in German law,
conflicts
of law, or just a good crime story about a priceless painting, post-war
occupation of Germany and murky Moscovite art smugglers.

1999: New Domain for German Law Archive
The German Law
Archive now runs on the new domain of iuscomp.org, which is
hosted by
Relay Business Systems Ltd. The decision to move the German Law Archive
outside
of the University of Oxford network follows a series of power cuts due
to
ongoing building work. We apologise to users of the German Law Archive
for
previous interruptions in the operation of the server, and would like
to thank
Relay Business Systems Ltd. for their kind support.

1998: "Translated German Cases and Materials" Series Published in the
German Law Archive
"Translated German Cases and
Materials"
is a new series of English translations of German
judgments and other German legal materials under the directorship of
Professors
P. Schlechtriem, B. Markesinis and S. Lorenz. Translators include Tony
Weir,
Raymond Youngs and Irene Snook. It is planned that the entire series
will be
first or exclusively published in the German Law Archive. The first
eleven
translations of German judgments (in particular in tort law) have just
been
added to the German Law Archive.
November
1998: Inauguration of the German Law Archive Database
The German Law
Archive Database was inaugurated in a ceremony at Gray's Inn, London on
4
November 1998, starting at 6:00pm GMT, by the German ambassador in
London,
Gebhardt von Moltke, as part of the new German Law Websites in the UK network.
